Manchester City 3 Leipzig 2
Today (28 November) in 2023 City came back from being 2-0 down to win 3-2 against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League. You can see highlights here: https://www.mancity.com/citytv/mens/manchester-city-rb-leipzig-highlights-63836808 The victory meant that City won the group.
City’s scorers were Haaland, Foden and Alvarez.
Stoke v Manchester City 15 Years Ago

City Women: The First Game
Today (27 November) is the anniversary of the women’s team’s first game. It was payed at Boundary Park in 1988 and saw Oldham Athletic Ladies face Manchester City Ladies. I was there as my girlfriend, now wife, was playing. She scored two goals in the club’s 4-1 victory. Subscribers can read a 2,200 word long read on this historic first game. Enjoy!

Top Two Divisions Attendances and Table From 40 Years Ago!
Last week I posted the top flight attendances for this last week forty years ago and this led to a number of comments/questions and so to answer some of those I’ve now posted the top two divisions attendances together with the two League tables AND the end of season average attendances. People asked for clarity on how the figures compared to the second tier and whether League position played its part in affecting crowds. As a reminder here’s last week’s attendances…
And here’s this week’s (published 24 November 1985) and the League table too.
Obviously, these are only snapshots from that season but to add a bit more context here are the end of season averages here are the top 46 best supported clubs in order that season (hopefully it might make those who sing songs like ‘Where Were You?’ think about the crowds at their own clubs first):
A few notable League positions for those who do sing ‘Where Were You?’… The top eight clubs in the League were: Liverpool (champions), Everton, West Ham, Man Utd, Sheff Wed, Chelsea, Arsenal and Forest. Manchester City (who were 4th best supported club) were 15th (only 4 points above relegation zone), Spurs were tenth, Newcastle 11th and Aston Villa 16th.
In the Second Division best supported club Sunderland were 18th (avoiding relegation by 4 points); the top four were Norwich, Charlton, Wimbledon and Portsmouth.

Malcolm Allison Autographed Copy of The Pride of Manchester
As part of my tidy-up of my collection I have a copy of The Pride of Manchester signed by Malcolm Allison available if anyone wants to buy it. I’m open to offers and will accept the best offer received by Sunday 30 November. The book was published in 1991 and originally retailed at £21.95. It was, at the time, the full history of the men’s Manchester Derby.
The dedication by Big Mal is ‘To Gary’, so if you’ve got a Gary in your family maybe it would be worth buying it for them. I’ll also be happy to write a personal dedication for the buyer.
Malcolm signed this copy when I interviewed him at his home in Yarm about Joe Mercer in 1992-93. The dustjacket is damaged a little with wear and tear at top and bottom. The book is over 30 years old so inevitably will show some wear and tear, but is in a good condition overall.
Minimum offer is £26 to cover UK postage and book original value.

Manchester The City Years is the full history of Manchester City, published in 2012 (it’s an updated/redesigned version of Manchester The Greatest City). I will have some copies of Manchester The Greatest City available soon, once I’ve checked them out. It has been out of print since 2013.
Farewell To Maine Road is the official history of City’s old ground, published in 2003. It has been out of print since 2004.
