On this day (8 September) in 1971 Manchester City defeated Wolves 4-3 in the League Cup. The Manchester Evening News claimed this was ‘one of the most fantastic victories in the 11 year history of the League Cup.’ Wolves were leading 3-1 and appeared comfortably through to the third round when City scored in the 78th, 81st and 84th minutes to send City through instead.
